Beethoven's 9th SymphonyThis is a featured page

At the end of every year in Japan, orchestras play Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Its official title is Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 "Choral."

We researched about Beethoven’s 9th symphony and learned that many people understood a lot about Beethoven. For example, we asked, “Who wrote Beethoven’s 9th symphony?” Everyone knew Beethoven wrote it, of course. We asked, “Where was Beethoven from?” Again, everyone knew he was from Germany. We asked, “How many times do you listen to Beethoven’s 9th symphony in a year?” Surprisingly, 50% answered never. We asked, “What symphony do you know except for Beethoven’s 9th symphony?” Not surprisingly, 33% answered Beethoven’s 5th symphony. We asked, “When did he die?” Half of the people we asked correctly answered 1827.

This article is about the composition. For the German poem, see Ode to Joy. For the EU and CoE adaptation, see European Anthem.Ludwig van Beethoven was almost completely deaf when he composed his ninth symphony. The Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 "Choral" is the last complete symphony composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Completed in 1824, the Ninth Symphony is one of the best known works of the Western repertoire, considered both an icon and a forefather of Romantic music, and one of Beethoven's greatest masterpieces.
